Drawing makes it possible to exist freely within a realm of thought—one that is both shaped and limited by the mind’s own creativity.

Acrilic Paintings “Çelebi’nin Rotası”:
2013 — 2025

Çelebi’nin Rotası presents a timeless narrative somewhere in history. It combines the familiar with the unknown in different stories on the path of dreams.

The collection includes a series of long-term works produced intermittently since 2013 and concentrated between 2023-25. In the works that have created a common language over time, geographically and historically familiar contexts have been created by quoting the characteristic features of structures belonging to the Balkans and the Aegean coasts. Local architectural elements that refer to history consist of non-existent, fictional narratives with the emphasis on stone, soil, and the countryside.

Painting Technique

These works, created over the course of approximately ten years in various locations and at different times, maintain a consistent foundational technique while exhibiting a range of complexity in detail and motif. Executed primarily in acrylic on canvas, the series occasionally incorporates alternative surfaces such as glass and MDF. Several pieces also feature experimental textures—such as sandblasting, filler, and foil—applied in conjunction with the acrylic medium to enhance material depth and surface variation. Each piece typically begins with a preliminary sketch, yet the final composition emerges organically through the painting process. This intuitive approach allows for a dynamic interplay of color, pattern, and texture, resulting in a cohesive but individually expressive body of work.

Painting Theme

This collection explores a fictionalized reality through compositions that feature motifs drawn from architectural structures—both vernacular and period-specific—that define the character of each work. A central theme is the interplay between the built environment and nature, often rendered within a rural context that reflects an imagined, yet coherent, world.

Each painting tells a distinct story, establishing its own fictional geography. While the works share recurring structural motifs, their individual narratives and visual resolutions vary, shaped by the different periods in which they were created. Over time, the depiction of architectural forms and natural elements becomes more intricate, reflecting the evolution of the artist’s visual language and conceptual depth.

Ink Drawings “Flâneur of the Lines:
2024 — 2025

Flâneur of the Lines consists of speculative drawings that begin to acquire meaning through the random combination of stray lines. These drawings establish relational dynamics that evolve beyond their original design. The weaving-like pattern, created through the interconnected relationships of various architectural elements, generates a spatial experience in which the observer is invited to navigate.

The architect’s drawing habit becomes a flâneur-like exploration—an instinctive pursuit of form where each line contributes to a tectonic relationship within the composition. This process, eclectic and unplanned, reveals an innate tendency toward pattern-making and spatial suggestion. Initially emerging as casual margin sketches or spontaneous scribbles in notebooks, the drawings gradually evolved into more deliberate works on larger-scale surfaces and dedicated sketchbooks.

Though created without predefined intent, they unfold into imagined utopias—spaces that defy realism yet evoke a strong spatial presence. The inclusion of human figures, subtly placed throughout the compositions, invites viewers to engage with the scenes imaginatively. These figures act as guides, enabling the observer to navigate the depicted space and wander through its fictional architecture.
